Running Head : ARTICLE SUMMARY Article Summary [Writer 's Name] [Name of Institution] Article Summary Cynthia Tucker in her article Barbie Madness ' explores the influence of famous Barbie on formation of aesthetical taste and imagination of modern young children about physical beauty . In the beginning of the writing the author recalls her own childhood memories and her perception of Barbie 's image . She underlines that at the age of 10 she was heavily impressed with the loveliness of Barbie , which , nevertheless , never became a symbol of natural human beauty and

remained as a sort of fantasy , with her ideal body proportions and changeless high heels . Now according to Tucker , Barbie manufacturers intend to start producing the dolls with less ideal proportions , expecting to lower the standards of physical beauty in the minds of young children . From this perspective the author of the article points on two possible alternative effects of this innovation . Tucker argues that positive hopes of American parents will , probably , fall short , because there are numerous other toys or models contributing greatly to the development of unrealistic imagination about female beauty . On the other hand , the author underlines that the role of parents in formation of children 's idea about real natural beauty is increasing , because children always have more opportunities to learn from their mother and father . Thus , the author comes to the conclusion that the parents must be more important role models for their children than any toys , TV stars or other modern cultural idols
