Geology is highly essential to us as a civilization because it encompasses as variety of fields and aspects that can be helpful to our daily lives . It is no secret that most of human history has been directly or directly influenced by events that concern various aspects of the earth . However , possibly one of the most important aspects of studying geology and its related fields is the ability to predict assess , and evaluate disasters that are geological in origin

For example , geology

has been highly useful in studying volcanoes . Over time , geologists have been able to somehow predict a volcanic eruption and as a result , thousands of casualties have been avoided . Through studying geology , people were also able to more or less determine which volcanoes are active and can erupt anytime soon and which are dormant and are relatively safe to the public . Moreover , various principle of geology can also be applied when studying earthquakes , which are one of the most devastating natural disasters in history . By studying the movements of the earth 's faults and tectonic plates using geologic principles , people are able to determine which places around the Earth are more prone to earthquakes and are able to avoid massive damage to property and loss of life by issuing warning signals to those areas

Furthermore , geology is also highly essential to the economy Geologists all over the world aid in locating and managing the natural resources of the earth such as fossil fuel which include coal and petroleum minerals , and metals such as copper and iron . In short geology is highly important to all of humanity simply because it is a study of the place where all humans live in - the Earth .
