In the whole of the United States of America , Los Angeles is the county that records the highest number of homeless people . Although the other counties have homeless people Los Angeles has the highest percentage of homeless people and hence has quite a number of vulnerable people . These homeless people range from all ages some from as young as less than five years of age to others who are over forty years old . In the period

of one year , Los Angeles records having approximately 254 ,000 homeless people . When the statistics are looked at per night , they show that 82 ,000 people are homeless every night . This does not mean that these people will have spent a whole year homeless but when a survey is done on a nightly basis the above result is obtained among the youth . The majority of the homeless are above 40 years of age but it seems that women join the homeless group at an earlier age than men Young mothers as young as 18 to 25 years are more likely to become homeless especially if they lack a supportive family who do not want the child and they are forced to move out . Children who have been left in foster care are also more likely to become homeless than those in stable families . The shifting from one foster home to a group home to yet another foster home destabilizes them emotionally . This will then lead to their running away from the homes they are put in and go to the streets where they can make friends who now become their family . 27 percent of the children in foster homes end up running away to the streets .
