p Various 1 . Has Nietzsche 's madman accurately stated the significance of the death of God ? Or does he understate (or overstate ) the case The message of The Parable of the Madman (1882 ) by Nietzche is simple and direct , though he says it in peculiar style , through the confused mind of the madman . This madman is symbolic . He resides within each one of us . When an individual turns cynical , loses all hopes of justice over the issues that boggle him , he blames God . God is supposed to hold the scale of

justice in His hand and give rewards and punishments according to the merits and demerits of one 's deeds . But in the real life situations , as understood by us , this doesn 't happen . One becomes agitated turns frustrated blames God ! Questions his very existence Nietzche is thoroughly unhappy the way human beings consider and treat God perturbs him deeply . The story goes , The madman jumped into their midst and pierced them with his eyes 'Whither is God " he cried "I will tell you . We have killed him -- you and I . All of us are his murderers . But how did we do this (Kaufmann , 1974 , pp 181-82 Nietzche then details all the great acts that God does for the human beings on this Planet earth , but how ungrateful is the humanity ! He also says there is limitation to human power and human ingenuity and they need to be aware of this shortcoming . Can human beings drink up the sea He asks who gave the sponge to wipe away the entire horizon . Man is moving directionless and destination less , without thinking and without expressing his gratefulness to God . He recalls how God unchained this Planet Earth from the sun , to create the abode for humanity . The confused man moves in all directions , away from the real path that takes him to God . He finally says , Gods , too , decompose . God is dead . God remains dead . And we have killed him (Kaufmann , 1974 , pp .181-82
Nietze 's estimation about God in relation to the attitude of the human beings is perfect He neither understates nor overstates . The madman realizes that he has arrived much ahead of the time the humanity has to progress a lot before reaching the level of Nietzvhe 's desired goal . His visit to the church , where he forces his way and opines "What after all are these churches now if they are not the tombs and sepulchers of God " Kaufmann , 1974 , pp .181-82 ) Man does wear the cross on the neck but Christ doesn 't abide in his heart
