Utopia vs . Dystopia Introduction Utopia is an envisioned perfect place (topos , in which the ideal life ' relative to a utopian philosopher , exists . It is relative because different philosophers suggested varying and sometimes contrasting concepts of utopia . The term , utopia was coined and derived from the fictional island of Thomas More , which he created and described in a novel entitled the same that was published sometime in 1516 . In modern times , utopia generally refers to all imaginary , ideal and perfect state , which philosophers like Plato , Karl Marx and Martin Luther King

While different philosophers offered varying concepts of utopia , there also exist certain similarities that can be inferred from the utopias of Karl Marx , Plato and Moore .
