During my senior year in High School , I was in a car accident on the way to an interview for my summer job . It was in the middle of a thunderstorm , and the rain was pouring down in huge buckets . My mother was driving as slowly and carefully however , it was just a matter of time before we got into a car accident . We had seen four car accidents since we had left the house earlier that morning including , an accident in which a girl driving a Toyota Celica crashed into an eighteen-wheeler . Her car slid right under the truck and the truck sliced off the roof of the Celica and the girls head
At this point we should have known to pull off of the road , my mother was normally a very cautious driver , and she knew better than to drive in bad weather . Unfortunately , my mother 's sense of duty to her children got in the way of common sense and we continued the long drive to the place that I was being interviewed . The position was very important to me , it was a pre-college internship that would allow me to build a network for the internships and other practical work experiences that I would need to complete my degree . This is why my mother did not stop off at the next rest stop
We stopped at the intersection and all of the sudden a white van came zipping out of nowhere , straight through the intersection without stopping , despite the fact that the light was red , in the direction that they were going , and cars coming from our direction had right of way The van slammed into the door of the car , on the side that I was sitting on . I was literally thrown into my mothers lap , and I was knocked unconscious . Luckily , a passerby had a cell phone , and called the police and EMS . By the time the police and the ambulance had arrived , I had become conscious again . Unfortunately , the van had left the scene of the accident , and because of my injuries and those of my family , no one had...
