Response to Hoyte 's post

I think that the proposed strategies on dealing with reluctant clients or resistant behaviors are very traditional . These strategies have been proven effective for many clients . However , my worry is that not all clients are the same . Because of this fact , some strategies or style may not apply to some circumstances . Furthermore , among the mentioned approaches from Cormier and Hackney and King , I think that Cormier and Hackney 's

acknowledgement , behavior modification , cognitive restructuring , homework , and formulations can be very effective . This method is useful because it recognizes first the problem which can help in the formulation of comprehensive and effective solutions . However , my only concern with this strategy is that cognitive restructuring should come first before behavior modification because in to change a patient 's behaviors , his or her mindset should be first modified so that the patient will understand the reasons for the modification . Then , this will eventually instigate a motivational factor to change and be more receptive to change

I like the proposed strategies of the learner regarding the handling of a client who is resistant to therapy or just the thought of it . The approach was focused on making the client feel comfortable and considering his perception and feelings towards therapy . Through this the therapist and client can quickly build a relationship wherein the therapist can gradually gain the trust of the client...
