You are in the right track , therefore , by employing open-ended questions and letting the parents say what they want to say because adding some aspect of [your] own perspective ' could very well prevent them from revealing anything helpful . This method also shows the client that you are trying to consider the problem from their own perspective . Cooper refers to this technique as showing empathy by looking at the problem through their eyes
