Internet is a unique medium that is entitled to protection of speech and others . Communications decency act was passed by united state of congress in February 1996 . Communication decency act imposed many restrictions on the speech that is published over the internet . It prohibits posting of indecent and offensive material on the web pages forum , public blogs etc . Some common fiction words that are not offensive are also restricted to be posted on the internet . It also restricts posting of pornographic material and obscenity in the web pages

It severely affected first amendment rights of all citizens of America . In to protect the children from the harmful and offensive speech the communication decency act was formed but it affected the large amount of speech that has constitutional rights . This act also seriously affected many online publications because of its protected speech burden

In June 1997 , the Supreme Court declared that communication decency act was unconstitutional . The court declared it as unconstitutional because it cause burden on the protected speech of American citizen and it violates the laws of first amendment . However court supported its motive of protecting children from porno and exposure to adult material .
