I gaaCaring Hands of a Nurse : The Core of Every Hospitals ' Patient Care

ABSTRACT

Nursing care is the core of every hospital 's patient care . Conversely patient satisfaction is one of the most important criteria to measure the quality of health services . Patient satisfaction is a vital measure when quality of nursing care is assessed . A dissatisfied patient is not psychologically or socially well and thus the goal of nursing is not attained (Vouri , 1991 . Care is a two-way concept that considers both the nurse (as the care giver ) and the patient

(as a care receiver . The technical training of a nurse is fundamental to nursing care . But this skill should be coupled with empathy and humanity in for the nurse to provide a holistic nursing care

INTRODUCTION

Nursing care includes the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual and /or potential problems related to illness , as well as providing health education and emotional support . Subsequently , nursing is a profession that is considered both an art and a science . The science of nursing is based on theories of nursing and principles of behavioral and natural sciences . The nurses ' characteristics of caring communicating , commitment , advocacy and competence exemplify the art of nursing

Nurses should be introduced and re-introduced to a holistic nursing philosophy , which offers a context for providing relationship-centered care and human caring science , and provides a foundation on which to ground complementary healing modalities . Emphasis should be placed on the healing power of self-care as an essential characteristic of the compassionate caregiver

Conversely Watson describes curing as a medical term to the elimination of disease The ten factors are as follows (1 ) the formation of a humanistic-altruistic system of values (2 ) the instillation of faith-hope (3 ) the cultivation of sensitivity to one 's self and to others (4 ) development of a helping-trusting , human caring relation (5 ) the promotion and acceptance of the expression of positive and negative feelings (6 ) the systematic use of a creative problem-solving caring process (7 ) the promotion of transpersonal teaching-learning (8 ) the provision of supportive , protective , and or corrective mental physical , societal , and spiritual environment (9 ) the assistance with gratification of human needs (10 ) the allowance for existential-phenomenological-spiritual . Watson 's work is a middle-range theory that deals with the caring actions taken by nurses as they interact with others

A HOLISTIC NURSING CARE : MY PERSONAL CONCEPTS ON NURSING CARE

My values and my assumptions that form the solid ground for the formulation of my personal theory on nursing care reflect a metaphysical , phenomenological-existential , and...
