where and what to do next . It is their basis on where they belong and the very foundation of the person they are going to mould themselves into . Socially , adolescence is a period of intensified preparation for the coming role of adulthood (Sadock ,B .J . and Sadock ,V .A , 2003 However , as Pillitteri stated that when they fail to accomplish this task it will result to role confusion . It 's like going through the challenges of life blindfolded therefore they would constantly grope for the direction they need to take to every forked road they will encounter . This is the period where they will try other routes , most of the time short cuts in to cope up with their group . They may try to find other ways of expressing their own self from alcohol , usage of drugs and find a sense of belonging by indulging in promiscuous sexual activities . It even adds up that it is at this age that sex drives are harder to resist , even more than that of an adult , due to high testosterone levels

Statistics show that 74 of women who had intercourse before the age of 14 and 60 of those who had sex before the age of 15 report having sex involuntary ( cited in The Alan Guttmacher Institute 1996 ' These actions would then lead to a rather complicated consequence more than what they bargained for , which is unplanned pregnancy . According to a website survey that 4 out of 10 American teenager will take the leap of exploring their sexual capacity and unintentionally conceive . By the end of the year that would be a million confused and panicking teenagers and 6 out of 10 theses teenagers are around the age of 18 to 19-years-old . These statistics would also actually be the number of adolescents that would be tackling complicated problems and will have to face responsibilities more than they can handle . First among the many problems that they will encounter is juggling their studies and their present situation . Most likely , these teenagers will drop out of school and not just because of lack of time but for more practical reasons , which is to acquire employment to support their personal financial needs and that of the baby . Since , this young parent lacks the skill and experience to get a high-paying job they would probably land on work that has minimum requirements with a minimum wage as well .
