If there is one thing that summarizes the different dance voices in the readings , it would be that dance education , as it exists in the present needs to be more sensitive to the needs of the students , dancers , and teachers . It is not anymore an issue whether dance tries to the audience or not . Actually , dance has thrived in an environment where what s the main audience has been a part of the usual consideration , part of the norm . Actually , there is really nothing wrong with this . All

arts are there for the viewer since a message in general (all artwork says something ) needs a message recipient . But , the main concern now is , dance both as an art and an academic discipline includes more than the viewer . There is the obvious artist , the dancer . There are also art teachers , choreographers , as well as the marginalized viewers whose wants are less considered . The main point of this is to show that although dance has its inherent characteristic of freeing the soul or making the dancer feel good about the flow , equity in dance as an academic field is still largely wanting (Risner 2006 . In this sense , a dance educator would need to go beyond the technical considerations or the constrained worldviews that they may have and be open to the larger horizon that is more inclusive of others . This , in to address the above-mentioned issue , shall have the following parts : the lack of equity in dance as an academic discipline , the need for a more inclusive framework for those who lead others in dance

By equity , we could simply follow Risner and say that it refers to fair and equal access and participation (Risner 2006 , 105 . In academic dance departments , Risner (2006 ) spoke of the lack of gender equity (Risner 2006 . By gender equity , Risner spoke of the pitiable pro of a number of dance instructors many of whom are women : 49-year-old female , part-time , non-tenure track instructor teaching up to six classes per semester , reporting no creative activity during the part two years (Risner 2006 , 105-106 . Though , Risner (2002 ) also spoke extensively of the disadvantaged position of gay male dancers and dance students . Gay men comprise half of the population of male dancers (Risner 2002 , 63 , though , in spite of this number , gay men still need to cover up their sexual preference because of the predominant heterosexism in dance . Their aspirations as gay men are not represented in dance nor are they , as dancers , subjects of academic research . Their under representation have caused a number of injustices done to gay dancers and student dancers by male dance teachers (Risner 2002 , 72
