George Perkins Marsh , a philologist and diplomat , is thought to be first
American environmentalist . Marsh was an capable linguist . He was able to
speak and write wil flair in over half a dozen European languages . He
was a noticible philologist for his time , and a great scholar scholar .
He have great knowledge of military science , physics , as well as
Icelandic , which was his expertise . He has written many articles for
Johnson 's Universal Cyclopaedia , and have many published letters and
reviews to the Nation (Marcus , 2004 )
John Muir
John Muir was one of the first contemporary preservationists . His
scriptures tell his adventures in nature , and wildlife , especially in
the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California , were read by millions and are
still popular today . His straight activism assisted to rescue the
wilderness areas including the Yosemite Valley . He founded The Sierra
Club which is currently one of the most significant wildlife
conservation organizations in the America (Williams , 2002 )
Theodore (Teddy ) Roosevelt
Teddy Roosevelt assumed that the government had to discard its
traditionalist pro-business behavior and take up an activist national
occurrence that would emphasize the public interest above all . As
statesman and as a governor in New York State , he lined up himself with
the forces of transformation and on the national level modified the role
of the Republican Party , nearly unaccompanied , forcing the Democrats to
pursue the trend . To encourage an activist government , Teddy Roosevelt
emphasized on redefining the "police power " of the state (Mowry , 2001 )
Gifford Pinchot
Gifford Pinchot recognized that United States forests are not to
everlasting and he worked hard to stop the damage that what was being
experience on the forests . He was so successful that in 1905 , President
Theodore Roosevelt established the U .S . Forest Service and Pinchot was
announced as the first Chief Forester . During Pinchot 's five years in
that position , millions of acres became national forests . Pinchot later
served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1923 to 1927 and 1931 to 1935 (Miller , 2001 )
Franklin Roosevelt
Franklin Roosevelt was a captivating leader of a nation . From the
beginning , Roosevelt revealed the traits -- which would shape the center
of his role in the White House . FDR , to be recognized with the common
good of an entire nation , was terminally and intensely selfish and
narcissistic . It was the struggle against polio that forged Roosevelt 's
character his inborn talents became stronger , and even his faults were
