Debate the various social factors associated with the situation of the underinsured

Underinsured is the term associated for the portion of the population who believes that their current insurance terms are not adequately protecting them from the surge of healthcare expenses and a direct determinant of which is the notable gap on the income to healthcare cost exposure ratio (Schoen et al , 2008 . Theoretically , underinsured state is supposed to be rampant

on the low income earners of the society but recent reports show that this phenomenon is becoming a serious problem for moderate to higher income earners (Silverman , 2008 . Consequences of underinsured state include increased morbidity and mortality , increased rate of hospitalization , reduced workforce productivity , and other relevant community and familial-based stress and pressure (Silverman 2008 . One of the social factors that is deemed to be related on the rise of underinsured is age where it is noted that adults aged 19-29 are 59 of the time more likely to be uninsured and underinsured while older adults aged 50-64 are 60 of the time more likely to be insured (Schoen et al , 2008 . Another social factor is the cultural group to which the person belongs to where it is explained that Whites are less likely to be underinsured as compared to Hispanics and African Americans (Schoen et al , 2008 .
