an old woman . Based on the last part of the story , the narrator is a woman . It means that it will be hard for her to answer her teacher 's question because she is a woman that will grow old in time . From a selfish perspective , the speaker became more accurate and rational in her ideologies as the discoverer of truth behind her teacher 's question . For the narrator , life is a chosen path that needs acceptance and trust to be able to achieve what is right . The sections of the poem described the character 's development into a radical thinking from a simple to complex mind

3 . The colors within this frame are darker than autumn , darker even than winter - the browns of earth , though earth 's most radiant elements burn through the canvas ' This line symbolizes sorrow . The colors represent brightness and life . The autumn represents fear and aloneness The winter shows sadness . The radiant elements are the forces that keep the whole canvass alive . The canvass is the current situation of life Even if there are connections of colors , the pain still exists as significant as the darkness . It is a concept of struggle that the painter wants to recognize but he could not . The whole canvass described how sadness overlaps happiness

Based on my own understanding , the canvass is the painter 's way to show his or her feelings towards a certain situation . There are different colors and effects exist . It shows that the painter or the creator of this canvass has no definite emotions . He or she feels that he or she is part of the autumn season with darkness and loneliness . Even if the line tells that there are radiant elements seen in the canvass , the dominating colors are still the dark ones . It means that the creator attempted to show happiness but he or she could not because sadness and loneliness are still the dominating expression that he or she experience

Several factors emerged in this line - woman , painting season , and children . Woman is a representation of femininity and compassion . A painting is a representation of emotions .
