In Support of Abstinence-Only Sexual Education

After the sexual revolution of the 1960s and 1970s , American political discourse shifted the way Americans relate to the of sexual education in our public schools . As mainstream American culture becomes further entrenched with sexual imagery and promiscuity , it becomes ever more prescient to teach younger generations the value of abstaining from sexual experimentation until they are mature enough to get married

For the past thirteen years , abstinence-only education received 1billion dollars in federal funding under a clause in the Welfare Reform bill of 1996 which

is commonly know as Title V . In the face of abstinence opposition , Congress is preparing to draft the REAL Act which would shift funding from abstinence-only programs to comprehensive sexual education program . A research study by Advocates for Youth has demonstrated that a comprehensive sexual education program not only does not demonstrate a long-term benefit for teens ' sexual health , but it has also shown that it increases sexual experimentation (Hauser Abstinence as a practice has never been doubted to be the safest method of sexual health

Abstinence education has the best interest of the young mind and body at the heart of its discourse because it tries to keep youth from the dangerous emotional and physical costs that dangerous sexual practices can impose for the unprepared participants .
