Service Learning

Service Learning Going to a low-income daycare and learning how adults relate to different children helped me better prepare myself for working and relating to others , in the future

My service learning experience , I feel , was very beneficial because I learned how people relate to others , especially when children are involved

Some of the children were from low-income families and didn 't have many possessions , and I easily noticed that they were treated differently than children who came from higher income families . Some

of the adults that worked there acted as if the children from the poorer families were bad , just because they lived in poor neighborhoods . Since I am from a low-income family in the Dominion Republic , I felt sorry for the children , and I could closely associate to the way they were feeling by this harsh treatment

My mother did not come with my dad and I so even though I was happy to move to the United States of America , I felt so sad that I didn 't still have my mother by my side . Even though I have everything that I could possibly want in this country , I did not have the love and affection that I needed from my mother

Being from a divided family , after a divorce of my own , I want to give my two sons the best life I possibly can . I will not give them everything they desire but I will make sure they have everything they need

After spending time at the daycare facility , I realize that these children to not have what should be most important , which is more attention from their care providers and parents . I quickly noticed that the children were not treated very well , since the teachers didn 't seem to care if they ate their food or went hungry . When some of the children ate of their food , the teachers acted as if they didn 't care This , to me was heart breaking since I know that if they were in a nurturing place that their provider would have cared for the children enough to make sure they had proper nourishment . It was sad to see the food go into the trash can , and know that some of the children would be very hungry

Having children of my own , I hated to think this could happen to my children or any other person 's child . Also , I noticed that the teachers didn 't provide for the children 's safety , as they should . When one of the children sprayed Lysol on another child , I immediately told the instructor and she acted as if it were no problem to her . She didn 't even explain the danger to the child who was spraying the other...
