Of course , it could be argued that the discontent , distrust or lack of dedication to their present positions may have also been the cause as to why Alfini and the two designers chose to leave School Zone for Dogs in Hats . Then again , during the hiring process , if it was already established that these people were the type who would value the opportunity to work for School Zone , the situation might not have happened . Character checks require more expense to undertake but they are worth it in the long run to making sure that the company hired the best people who would work and love the company and not just for what they could get out of the job
For a creative company like School Zone , protecting its intellectual property is a very serious matter . The company is successful because of the quality of the educational products that they sell and products like these involve a lot of creative input to produce . It employs a pool of educators , concept and graphic artists , and marketing people , whose contributions to the project involve their minds and talents . If Hoffman did not protect the company 's intellectual property , it would be wasting all the hours and effort , and the money he paid for the creative processes that went into making School Zone 's products . Worse , it would translate to savings on the part of the competition 's resources because they would not bother about hiring and paying extra people to create original products because all they have to do is simply copy what School Zone already have
For small companies , especially , it is very important that they protect their intellectual properties because if their ideas were stolen by larger and more established companies , they could get out of business due to poor sales .
