In the years before the reign of Julius Caesar , the Roman Republic had been prosperous and peaceful with a continued acquisition of territories and power . It had been ruled by a consul who was then chosen by the Senate . It could therefore be concluded that during the Republic , Rome 's power rest on the Senators rather than to a single person-such as an emperor or a king . This system was constructed in able to prevent tyranny and in able to

give and distribute the power to the people Republic , in itself is a term that used to mean the power that rest and comes from the people or citizen . In able to lessen the effect of tyranny , the consuls that were chosen are given only a short period of time to rule . This gives the current consul a limitation to his power and a perspective that his rule is under the scrutiny and favour of the Senate . theless , in Julius Caesar 's term , he managed to get the permission to become Rome 's dictator . In this sense he managed to acquire more power and connection than before . He gained the favour of the republic since he was able to expand Rome 's territory more effectively and he was also a charismatic leader . However there have been several people who become jealous of his power . This led to the infamous ' assassination of Julius Caesar in the hands of his Senator His hire which was Augustus was the one who was first to be called as imperatus , later on emperor . Thus , it was in Augustus reign that the Roman republic was called the Roman Empire . Augustus has also made several changes on the scope and limitation of the power distribution in his empire . He managed to be the sole ruler , the treasurer and the judge of the empire . He also holds military power . This made the Senate wary of him . Although revolution has always been present during changes in the form of Government , it seems that in the analysis of the transition between the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire , revolution is not the main cause . What transpired could perhaps be seen as a change in paradigm but since the old paradigm was not fully and forcefully overthrown , I would like to assume that a revolution is absent
