reading logs
Reading logs Today , I am reading Chapter 4 It 's a Drag : Where Have All the Women Leaders Gone . It is sad that gender discrimination still exist in a developed country like Canada . I feel the pain and difficulties of being a Canadian woman . Women are used and abused and never heard . As wives they can be used to get the attention of the male politicians supporters who are running for a position in the government Qualifications and dedication to the job do not matter at all . What matters is that first

, the person is a male and second he is a politician . I would now want to raise a question as to why male politicians are so insecure to have a female leader . Are they so scared that women are not only capable of attaining the highest position but they also have the utmost concern and sincerity in passing better laws and transforming a nation that can be as powerful or even better than other countries . Women like Pat Duncan , Alexa McDonough and Therese Casgrain among others have formidable determination . They all went against the tide of racism . In the end they have proven that their gender have not hampered their dreams to become leaders . Although some have occupied political positions for a short period of time , they have shown the Canadians and the rest of the world that women must be heard and treated equally as men . As to the questions , where have all the women gone , I believe that they are all over Canada refusing to wait for things to happen . They are holding their grounds and knocking down the walls of injustice , inequality and discrimination
Today , I am reading Chapter 5 Spice Girls and Old Spice Boys Getting There is Only Half the Battle . I feel that women political aspirants are compared to the popular Spice Girls band in the United Kingdom . On one hand , I feel that it is a remarkable comparison in terms of the energy , talent , confidence and popularity of the all female pop band . On the other hand , it may also mean that these aspirants are too loud and they represent a new generation of women politicians . This shows that in spite of the presence of women in politics , they are still regarded as a minority by the male dominated political parties . The Old Spice Boys are compared to the male 's aftershave cologne that had existed for many years . Similarly , men dominated the political arena and have occupied the majority position since time immemorial . Hence they seem to feel that they should rule and they cannot be uprooted by any female politicians especially the newcomers who are treated like pushovers . What is not acceptable for me as stated in the book is that female legislators are shouted down , verbally and sexually harassed heckled and ridiculed by men . I believe that this is not fair and this is a earned . If men want to be respected , they should also show respect to...
