Introduction The goal of this is to help individual to analyze the phenomena of race and ethnicity objectively and also some of the worlds wide spread pattern of discrimination . In effort to achieve this it is important to take a culturally relatively approach and also to suspend our own biased as much as possible . It is a difficult task given to the emotionally charged feelings and deep belief that most people have concerning race and ethnicity . Moreover , suspending these attitudinal barriers in to get a better understanding of these phenomena is worth

the effort .To begin with lets define ethnicity . It refers to selected cultural and physical characteristics used to distinguish people into categories or groups believed to be different and unique . Commonly Identified American ethnic group include Latinos , chines , African Americans , Europeans American . Ethnicity can also mean loose group identified with little or no cultural tradition in common for example German Americans and the Irish . In contrast , newly arrived immigrant groups often fit in a pattern whereby they have coherent subcultures with shared language and body of tradition . Ethnic group may be a majority or minority in the group . Ethnicity can also be define in simpler term to be that which represents social groups with a shared history , sense of identity geography and cultural roots which may occur despite racial difference
Whether a group is minority or majority is not an absolute fact but depends on perspective for instance , in small homogenous society such as those of pastoralists , hunters and gatherers , there is no minority and there is essentially only one ethnic group . But in some towns a long the southern boarder of the U .S people of Mexican ancestry are the majority who owns most of social and political institution but still referred as the minority by the state and government
Race is defined as human population considered distinct based mostly on physical characteristic . Scientists have discovered that 2 percent of our genes contribute to our visible different such as skin . One drop rule ' stipulate that a person with any amount of black blood was to be regarded as black despite his skin colour . Some of the racial categories found in the world are Asians , Africans , American Indians , Alaska native , native Hawaiians , Whites and Blacks and other pacific islanders Each of these categories has their own definition . for example in U .S American Indian or Alaska native was referred to as a person having any origin in any of the original peoples of south and north America and who maintains community attachment or tribal affiliation , white person is referred to has having origin in any of the original peoples of the middle east , Europe , or north Africa .
