PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Jane Austen 's novel , Pride and Prejudice , is basically a love story that occurs

between two people who have these attributes in their personalities and must overcome

them . These two characters are Elizabeth and Darcy . As the editor states in the preface

to Austen 's novel , the book is about people who see moral good in other individuals , and

then better themselves through their influence (Gray , xvii . This betterment is made in the novel by both Elizabeth and Darcy by overcoming their pride (Darcy is at

first seen as a haughty snob in the novel ) and prejudice (Elizabeth holds to this first impression long after it has been countered by Darcy 's sincere interest in her . Thus both characters learn to become better people through each other . Darcy and Elizabeth have heir pride and prejudice affects their relationships with other characters in the novel , as they learn to love each other

Darcy 's pride keeps him from admitting his love for Elizabeth , and keeps him in a
