The rays of the warm sun streamed through the windows when she opened her eyes . She smiled , thinking that tonight is probably the biggest night of her 35-year old life . But the smile vanished when she felt the queasiness in her stomach . Shell have a date tonight with a handsome guy for the very first time . She can 't even remember how she got so old without even dating men . That should be the greatest failure of her life

She was still debating with herself whether she made

the right decision by agreeing to this date . She agreed only because her best friend Cary bullied her into it 'Come on , Roberta . It 's time you have a social life . It 's always work for you

She made a face when Cary said that last Wednesday 'You know I 've never had any experience in dealing with men . What if I get raped or murdered

That statement got a scowl from her best friend . She said Roberta 's being single had made her paranoid . Even though Cary herself met her fiance through the online dating service , it was a different situation because she 's beautiful

And now it 's Friday . Against better judgment , she didn 't go to work to make way for her preparation . After taking a shower , Roberta faced the mirror . Her face puckered . The same lifeless eyes , dull hair and skin and thin lips . And that means I 'm unattractive . At least she thinks so Otherwise she would have been married now

As she changed into clean clothes , she decided she needed a new dress for tonight 's occasion . Just as Cary said , she deserved to look good for her date , whose picture sent to her looked like a handsome Hollywood actor she couldn 't name

She spent the whole morning at the gym . The afternoon found her at the downtown mall . She found a beautiful satin dress that fits her perfectly . The price made a huge dent in her savings . She wanted to regret buying it , no matter how beautiful it is . She also purchased an expensive make up kit , equally expensive brand of perfume and shoes to go with her dress . And to complete everything , she decided to get a make over at the newly opened salon she just passed by a while ago . It consisted of hair treatment and make up . She even had manicure , pedicure and body massage . By the time she exited the salon , she was feeling a bit better

Cary had been in her flat earlier that day and complimented her get up That evening , she prepared early because her date wasn 't going to pick her up . They decided to just meet at the restaurant to avoid any awkwardness

While she entered the restaurant , she was feeling queasy again . I hope he doesn 't get disappointed by my appearance . It took her so long and so much just for this one night
