Mentorship in Practice Introduction Mentorship sounds good as it means guiding somebody who is yet to gain knowledge and understanding of the job and to be able to perform that job precisely and effectively . Mentorship in practice therefore means an exercise of one 's fine knowledge and experience to help others learn the job and to be effective and efficient in performing duties . Mentorship then is important in a work environment particularly with newly hired employees and to management trainees . But mentorship is particularly important in the clinical environment especially in hospitals because what is at stake is the patient 's life . The case study below reflects the value of mentorship and supervision in the assessment process in clinical environment . The case Study In a case study presented in this , it affirms the importance of mentorship and supervision in clinical environment and their influence in the assessment process . The case study involves a forty seven year old man who was admitted to the surgical ward following a diagnosis of perforated gastric ulcer and is scheduled for emergency surgery . Assessment In my initial assessment to Frank , it seems all my learning in the classroom was suddenly gone and I felt I needed somebody to consult with , as Frank was in a state of shock and obviously was in great pain . According to John R . T . Monson , Graeme Duthie , and Kevin O 'Malley , there are various types of shocks , and some of them may even lead to patient 's death .
