MEDICAL ETHICS : HISTORICAL NAMES Medical Ethics : Historical Names Author Institution Instructor Course Code Date Hippocrates Ethics could have begun consciously or unconsciously among the earliest civilizations . As cooperative interactions were built between members of a group , so did the behavior of a single individual and the group at large become a subject of analysis and introspection . The regulation thereof of such behaviors constituted the earliest primitive forms of ethical considerations . History attests that by the 6th century Pythagoras advocated for these earliest forms of primitive ethical

br behavior and postulated that mental discipline was integral to a good life . By advocating for simplicity in dress , speech and food he effectively ushered in the concept of a divinely personal mortality . It is this concept that would later on influence Hippocrates between the years of 460-375 B .C to formulate the Hippocratic Oath one of the earliest professional code of ethics
Greatly influenced by Pythagoras concept of a divinely inspired personal mortality , Hippocrates wrote the Hippocratic Oath in the 5th Century . In line with the religious influences at the time , the Hippocratic Oath was Christianized as a way of eliminating the references to pagan gods . Basically , the Oath encompasses the duty of a physician to the patient as well as his duty to other health care professionals . The Hippocratic Oath and the Persian medical ethics became the threads that would be used to weave the fabric of the current medical codes of conduct and ethics
