It is the delight of many people to be recognized at their place of work , and be rewarded for their effort and dedication . The reward mostly comes in terms of promotion and pay rise . However , in many cases , job satisfaction matters more than pays . This is mostly applicable at different jobs , and it is not different in the US Navy . Getting promotion to the post of Chief Officer in the naval services is a sign of recognition of

the service given by the officers , and it is a privilege that many service men would like to have

Within the Chief Officer 's position , there are different ranks , starting from the Chief Petty Officer , followed by Senior Chief Petty Officer and finally the Master Chief Petty Officer . To become a Chief Petty Officer , and the subsequent ranks , it requires that an officer should have had subsequent amount of time in the service (at least 11 years pass several evaluation scores as well as the special exams . To be promoted to the Chief Petty Officer , is one of the significant promotions to receive in the naval services . Therefore , a selectee is taken through some series of steps by the other Chiefs , under an assigned Sponsor Throughout the indoctrination period , the chiefs provided required guidance to the selectee . This period prepared the selectee for the initiation ceremony

It is only those who underwent the initiation period , whether they have retired or are still in service that are allowed to attend the initiation of a new selectee . In the initiation period , a selectee had got a charge book in which any of the mistakes committed were documented , and thus punished by the kangaroo court . This was a normal procedure of the initiation which had to be undertaken . However , the initiation period was not a must , as a selectee had the right to decide to forego the procedure

With time , the initiation practices have been replaced with other new policies and procedures , which are generally induction processes However , there are many similarities between the new induction and the old initiation procedures

For more recognition , a promoted officer will be given a change of uniform to accompany the new rank and roles . The officer will also be given some privileges over the others for instance , they will have different places as their home , and the dining areas . After the promotion , the Chief Petty Officer 's address turns to Chief and not just the name that he /she was initially referred by . This is both by those who are above or below his /her new rank
