On meaning quesitons of The Bedford Reader
Neat People vs . Sloppy People 1 . Suzanne Britt believes that neat people are lazy , man , petty callous , wasteful , and insensitive ' How would you respond to this statement While describing someone as neat is a positive remark , while describing someone as sloppy is negative , Ms . Britt uses a surprising analysis on neat and sloppy people . She appears to prefer sloppy people over neat people , as suggested by her statement , Neat people are lazier and meaner than sloppy people ' Ms . Britt uses seven paragraphs to support her somewhat harsh claims that neat people

are lazy , wasteful , and insensitive , among others . She cites , among many examples , neat people 's tendency to excessively buy stuff then inappropriately throw them away to the trash bin . On the other hand , her of sloppy people is not harsh at all , and even encouraging . She says , sloppy people are not sloppy at all because their sloppiness is merely the unfortunate consequence of their extreme moral rectitude ' She avers sloppy people keep everything because they think they could still utilize old stuff and they couldn 't part with memories attributed to those tings
Albeit I believe the statement that neat people are lazy , petty callous ' is a bit harsh , I would not take any offense by her statement . Ms . Britt is simply using a hyperbolic and humorous way to compare and contrast two different personas . While it appears that she would prefer sloppy over neat people , she implied that sloppy people have a tendency to procrastinate , i .e . to put off tomorrow what they can do today . Based on the details she gave , sloppy people , while having noble intentions of arranging and piling their things , end being disly because of their tendency to accumulate too much stuff
2 . Is the author 's main PURPOSE to make fun of neat people , to assess the habits of neat and sloppy people , to help neat and sloppy people get along better , to defend sloppy people , to assume and entertain , or to prove that neat people are morally inferior to sloppy people ? Discuss
I don 't believe that Ms . Britt EXPLICITLY aimed to show that that sloppy people are more moral than neat people , or assess the habits of the two individuals
While Ms . Britt 's weighing scale appears to tilt in favor of the neat people over sloppy people , as her examples appear to be harsher for neat people , I don 't think she was trying to prove that neat people are morally inferior to sloppy people . Had she intended that , she would have written a scientific journal , do experimentation , did extensive studies to prove her point . Ms . Britt simply used entertaining examples to contrast two groups of people . She detailed that sloppy people , due to their tendency to keep stuff , end up with dusty and messy houses , on one hand , while neat people , because of their apparent obsessive-compulsive tendency to be clean , end up throwing stuff , which could still be useful , on the other
Ms . Britt 's purpose , I believe...
