Paper Topic:

mans search for meaning

The constant drive of man to provide solutions for his /her problems and challenges and the ability to create something out of it are the primary themes of Viktor Frankl 's book . Realizing such , the story captivates and inspires readers to understand and comprehend what matters most . In the end , attaining such information brings about one 's personal meaning in life

The book , Man 's Search for Meaning ' highlights the struggle of the victims in Auschwitz and different concentration camps during the Second World War . It is a memoir of a man

who is subject to forced labor and witnessed different ways in which people faced the hardships and pain brought about by the said event . It is through such lens that Frankl realized , by what he observed , that the incident was an important catalyst for man to recognize their own individual meaning

By actively seeing the suffering of other people , Frankl himself found the very reason and meaning to survive . This meaning catapulted him to endure the suffering and longing brought about by the experience at different concentration camps and create an alternative approach where man can identify himself /herself and distinguish their meaning in life It is through this discovery of an alternative approach that he is credited for the formation of logotherapy . This scheme is one important part of the contributions brought about by Frankl 's memoirs

In the end , the overall message of the book is for man to understand and respond to the challenges and hurdles given by life . It is through this that each one may attain meaning and self-worth "Ultimately , man should not ask what the meaning of his life is , but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked . In a word , each man is questioned by life and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life to life he can only respond by being responsible (Frankl , 1997 ,

Every man has their own individual problems that can be solved only by us . Seeing this , Frankl 's book serves as an important guide for persons to realize that problems will continue to be present no matter what . The only challenge for man is how each one would treat the problems . Such treatment will separate those who carry the burden on every problem to people who create meaning and significance out of it

After reading the book , I felt really bad to the treatment of prisoners inside the concentration camp . It may be understandable if many became hopeless and insane inside because of the treatment . However , I felt a great amount of admiration to prisoners who became stronger in the encounter and used such strength to go on everyday and survive . Such determination has been evident when these individual 's became conscious of their true meaning in life

As I see it , my experiences shape the way I perceive my meaning . Every action that I commit is an important catalyst for my every succeeding action . Learning my past mistakes and applying the proper measures can help me live a better life . However , the real essence of getting meaning is my tendency to continue fighting and struggling with the challenges that life will and shall give me . Our main determinant for such development is our capability to enhance our experiences . Thus "What matters is not the meaning of life in general but the specific meaning of a person 's life at a given moment . Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life to carry out a concrete assignment which demands fulfillment (Gray , 1998
