Literacy is more than the ability to read and write it is also the ability to express ones feelings , opinions , and ideas . This ability to communicate is an important skill that everyone should know about Literacy can be much appreciated if the person has a deeper understanding of its true nature and at the same time knowledge of how to use it for the common good . Literacy is more than the ability to

read and write . It is also the ability to communicate and to establish a person 's identity through speech and writing . It is therefore important to know how literacy works in the real world and not just in the four corners of the classroom . Hence , there are two different points of view The traditionalists are saying that literacy can be achieved only through the formal structure of the school system while the non-traditionalists are saying that literacy can be achieved even outside the school system . This paper is an attempt to know more about literacy especially when it comes to the argument of the traditionalist and non-traditionalist
