The Reign of Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria was eighteen years old when she got the command to reign She got great help from the first Prime Minister , Lord Melbourne and her husband , Prince Albert in her ruling period . She learnt from them how to use her influence under the limited power of the monarch . After the death of her husband , she drifted herself from the public . But when she found that the Prime Minister , Benjamin Disraeli was not giving much attention , she took the charge of the public duties . She to support reconciliation and peace in the foreign policy and insisted not to get involved in wars . She became more popular among public since 1870s . Victoria was made Empress of India when Disraeli government passed the Royal Titles Act . She introduced the used of secret ballot in 1872 through which people became able to vote without any pressure Though , Victoria had limited power but she exerted great influence with her high level of prestige . During her reign , the evolution of the idea to remain above all political parties with the help of the constitutional monarch took place and Victoria gave her precious opinions on the matter . As the Second Reform Act of 1867 passed Victoria did not get enough freedom for the selection of individual for the premiership .
