A Letter to the President I wrote to you to express my concern on the gloomy state of our educational system , which in the words of the great Bertrand Russel (1922 , has become a chief obstacle to intelligence and freedom of thought ' Instead of assisting students in discovering their full potential for the service of society and world in their own unique capacities , it has stifled the varying creative aptitudes of people and homogenized learning that reduced people into mechanistic robots Instead of facilitating the exploration of meaning through the active participation

of students , it has restricted the concept with the dictates of the powers that be . And instead of nurturing talents for the creation of a more just , free and democratic society , it has set predetermined notions of justice , freedom and democracy that continue to marginalize and segregate people who do not conform to its programmed and stagnant principles
I speak about the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB , which was adopted and signed into law on 2002 by former President George Bush . Based on the conviction that establishing standards and quantifiable goals can improve the educational system , the NCLB require all public schools in all states across the US to administer standardized assessment exams to all students annually particularly in English and Math . While its objectives are indeed noble , it miserably fails in addressing the necessary improvement that our educational system urgently requires as well as tackling other related issues and challenges the our educational system is currently...
