I Already Like Me

At the completion of this course , I feel that not much has changed about myself personally . I already like me . I always have . What I think that I have been able to do , though , is to grow in expressing myself in English , which is very important

While I speak English very well , writing is a bit more difficult , and many native speakers will say the same thing . English is the hardest language in the world to master , and I

am very proud that I do as well as I do since I did not grow up speaking this language . The fact that I can speak English well makes me less of an outsider , but I still maintain a bit of difference ' about me because of the way I look and dress sometimes . After examining , my first essay , what really jumped out at me was when I wrote , I have found comfort in my own skin and I am happy just the way I am . I have come to believe that a person 's worth is not based on his /her appearance but on his /her work and compassion ' The fact that I have faced many obstacles to do my studying in America is proof of this statement , and seeing it written down brought it to light for me about my real sense of purpose here What also jumped out at me was I know that I have the capacity to learn my subjects well and this is what I want , whether I think am smart or not is not important . In my family I am always the smart one and it places great pressure for me to live to that expectation although my family tells me that whatever I achieve they will be proud of it ' I remember my goal and will continue to focus on my education

My second writing really didn 't make much of a statement on who I am as a person , but shed a little bit of light on how I feel about gender and sexuality . To my surprise , upon reflection of this second writing , I see that I hold pretty modern views on sexuality and know the difference between sexuality and gender . I think that my culture and my education have contributed to these views

My new home , Columbus , Ohio , also contributes to who I am and how I view issues such as gender and sexuality . While Columbus varies greatly from Rio in climate and population and culture trends , it is a city that is multicultural and full of rich history . I have felt welcome here for the most part , and try to enjoy all of the cultural experiences that there are to enjoy while I am here . I know that I have grown as a person by being here , but I also know that I will be going back to my home , where I belong
