Humans are social beings . By this term , the modern society revealed their understanding that no human could live alone without the help of any other . Taking the logic of this statement , social relationship should be a common part of human everyday lives . Without social relationship humans cannot survive , furthermore , inside the modern world . In the light of this understanding , rules of social conducts were established by societies . Different types of social values are created and maintained in to retain harmony within social relationships One of those important values of social relationship is privacy (Thompson , 1975

There is no real definition of the term privacy . However , we do now that its role in our lives is apparent and undeniable . In the business realm , privacy has been an important issue since human resource management became crucial . The concept of privacy itself gained recognition in legal manner in the 1890 's . Since then discussion and debates have developed the concept enormously . The need for balance between business needs and privacy has been an interesting of discussion among managers and business owners (Bible , 1990

Today , the issue of privacy is a common element of human resource management . Neglecting the concept could cause significant reduction in employee motivation and thus , productivity . Within this , we are discussing privacy and its role in the workplace . The discussion will be made base on a case study about violation of privacy in the workplace There will be an elaboration of the case , analysis of the apparent problems and in the final chapter , suggested solutions to manage conflicts in the workplace

Case Background

The case is set up in Miami , in the largest manufacturing plan of the Mansen Company , producer of men 's and women 's apparel . There were several actors involved within the case . The first actor was Bob Collins , a creative and hard-working industrial engineer who works as an assistant manager in the industrial engineering department of the Mansen Company . The second actor in focus was Jim Douglas (Bob 's boss , the manager of industrial engineering function in the Florida region . The third was Mark Douglas (Bob 's partner , an industrial engineer who is an assistant manager of the industrial engineer department , and the fourth is Mr Glenn , the regional manager of Mansen Company in Florida III .
