The Importance of the Doctrine of Christ 's Deity to the Christian Church

Introduction

Christ is the prophesied Messiah and the founder of the Christian Church . Christianity is today 's largest religion , comprising of a quarter of the world 's population . It traces its history from Jesus - the Christ - and His disciples . Without the doctrine of Christ there would be no Christian Church . Christianity began merely as a Jewish sect as Jesus was born a Jew and preached , primarily , to the Jews . That the Jews do not believe in Christ as

the Messiah did Christianity altogether , developed into a separate religion . The idea that Jesus is not the Messiah would be a blow to the Christian faith

Although Christians , according to the Apostle 's Creed , believe in one God , the Father almighty and the creator of all things , Christ is the central figure of their faith . He is the only Son of God and the Lord born of a virgin through the power of the Holy Spirit , He suffered and died so that may perish , fulfilling some of the prophecies in the Old Testament . Ancient historical sources for Christ 's existence includes passages from Josephus Antiquities of the Jews , Pliny the Younger 's letter to the Roman emperor Trajan , Tacitus ' Annals , and Suetonius ' Lives of the Twelve Caesar . From Pliny the Younger , he mentions about Christians who refused to worship the Emperor but instead worshipped Christus . From Tacitus , he mentions that Nero blamed the Christians for the Great Fire in Rome . He mentions that these Christians derived their name from Christus ' and then gave further short information . From Suetonius , he mentions the instigation of Chrestus ' when Jewish riots broke out during the time of Emperor Claudius

Although the name Christ was mentioned in passages of ancient historical texts , its authenticity is often subject to controversy . In the writing of Jewish historian and Roman citizen Josephus ' Antiquity of the Jews he mentions the name Jesus on two passages . Most scholars believe the second and shorter passage , in which he mentions the name James as the brother of Jesus , who was called Christ , to...
