The importance of creativity(why is creativity important and where does it come from)
THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATIVITY People are social beings . What is usually meant by the statement has both positive and negative outcome . On the one hand , a person 's social nature is a necessary condition of his or her survival , on the other hand , a deep-rooted habit of following certain patterns of behaviour and thinking is an obstacle to the individual 's further development Stereotypes come into play on all levels of human existence that involve social interaction as well as problem-solving both at a personal and at business level . It is the

brain 's inherent ability to break the conventional cause-effect chain that gives a potent impulse to human evolution in every sense of this word . The phenomenon of creativity is the power that accounts for every minor innovation and discovery throughout the history of mankind . In the current I intend to examine the nature of creativity paying attention to the way different theorists see it . I 'm also going to argue that practical creativity is the crucial precondition for being competitive in business nowadays because global world demands global thinking
What is Creativity "The very essence of the creative is its novelty , and hence we have no standard by which to judge it
-Carl R . Rogers , On Becoming a Person
As Keith Sawyer notes in his book Creativity and Development Creativity is notoriously difficult to define . He himself sticks to the broad 1970s definition by Barron and Harrington , which runs as follows : Creativity is a socially recognized achievement in which there are novel products (Sawyer 10 ) Like most theorists , he points out that creativity combines two characteristics : novelty and usefulness . First of all , a creative idea or work must be novel . Yet novelty is not enough , because a novel idea may be ridiculous or nonsensical . In addition to novelty , to be creative an idea must be appropriate , recognized as socially valuable in some way to some community (Sawyer and Keith 20 ) Defining creativity in the above way places emphasis on creativity as an outcome . However , as Judith Judith H . Heerwagen notices , some researchers like Drazin look at creativity as a process that ebbs and flows over time in response to problems that arise unpredictably . Besides the two views exists a popular concept of creativity as potential aptitude , which is clearly illustrated by the definition from Britannica : The ability to make or otherwise bring into existence something new , whether a new solution to a problem , a new method or device , or a new artistic object or form
Overall , there is a growing consensus to assess creativity as outcome concentrating on its practical value . The simple formula of David Archibald demonstrates it quite clearly
Creativity Idea Action
However , despite the importance of the outcome aspect , it is impossible to understand the nature of creativity without focusing on it as a consecutive process comprising certain stages
