In this article the writer (Daniel Finkelstein ) is casting doubt against the notion that indeed video games cause violence . The article itself in essence is

criticizing the research work that has been done by Professor Craig Anderson of Iowa State University who it names the `prime mover ' of reaching the conclusion that video games indeed cause violence . The article further says that Anderson has constantly argued even before congress that the `impact of violent video games on violent behavior ' is what smoking is to cancer , it is a cause and effect process

Anderson having done an experiment had concluded that after playing violence video games for about 10 minutes the subjects were more likely to have an aggressive behavior . The writer is on the opinion that this is an exaggeration because of the lack of clarity on whether the correlations are really causal and also how long the effect might remain . His doubt stems from the skepticism that had been raised by Benjamin Radford who is a science journalist who proved that Professor Anderson 's research produced contradictory results

The writer further presupposes that players of such games are aware of what they are - just games . Thus more convincing research needs to be down which the Tanya Byron 's new task force is doing . Otherwise the writer is on the opinion that the justification that violent video games have negative violent impacts is very narrow and `thin

The writer is responding to the defeat of a bill in Utah State on 20th February 2007 for fear that the bill would `infringe upon first amendment rights . The writer is amazed by the reasoning of one of the supporters of this bill Maryanne Christiansen who was on the opinion that money should rather be put in implementing this bill that exposes the children to danger . The defeat of the bill upsets Maryanne because the Utah Congress has refused to spend money in the restriction of sale of violent video games . The writer is on the opinion that the money should rather be spent on the ghettos that are portrayed in the games ' instead

Thus he is of the view that the society and the government at large across the country are more concerned about curtailing virtual violence instead of the real violence that is constantly taking place...
