Security threats to information systems have been on the rise no matter how preventive technologies keep advancing . Hackers are always lurking behind the scenes waiting to wreck havoc on websites and private networks or computers with the aim of altering , damaging or accessing personal information . Security therefore becomes very important . Below are five crucial technologies and policies for deterring hackers

Installing and Implementing Firewalls

Firewalls are barriers that prevent hackers , viruses and spyware from

computer networks by intercepting all incoming traffic and filtering unauthorized data and other suspicious applications . Hackers usually use Trojans and other codes which attach themselves to internet traffic in to penetrate networks . An effective firewall will block these threats and other forms of unauthorized access by establishing one-way traffic between an organization 's network and the World Wide Web . Strong firewalls will deter hackers from attempting to penetrate a network since it will repeatedly thwart their attempts

Developing a corporate security policy

Organizations or individuals who run private networks should establish security policies bearing details of regular practices to secure the network . Internet security policies should direct all users of the network to choose unique passwords for their systems , mostly having combinations of letters and numbers . Users of the network should also be advised to avoid using predictable passwords like birthdays , names of spouses or children , their own names and alterations of the same .
