Author 's Name Good Morning , Vietnam Robin Williams plays the character of Adrian Cronauer , a United States Army soldier assigned in Vietnam to become a Disc Jockey for the Armed Forces Radio Saigon . He was a comic person with radical methods in broadcasting , which was frowned upon by his superiors . Yet the majority of the listeners took relief in his fun and interesting way of delivering news . News was no longer just a dry narration of events , it was a form of entertainment . country , he took notice of a Vietnamese girl . He persued her despite her expressions of refusal and disinterest . But he was persistent enough to follow her , he went to her English lessons class and as he would stop at nothing until she talks to him . His interest on the girl even led him to teach the class she was attending . He also met another local , this time a boy named Tuan . They met because Tuan warned Cronauer from pursuing his sister , the girl named Tinh . Although the boy initially disliked William 's character , they eventually became friends The boy and Cronauer had formed a certain bond , as Tuan served as his guide when he was still familiarizing himself with the city . The boy accompanied him to almost every place he went and even took the boy to a certain night club which was a frequent choice of the American G .I 's It was owned by a man named Jimmy Wah . Here , the boy was discriminated by other soldiers , which Cronauer vehemently opposed . One day , Cronauer was having a drink at the bar when Tuan came and asked him to go outside with him . After they exited the place , a bomb exploded , destroying most of the establishment
Everyday , new reels were being broadcasted to the soldiers stationed in Saigon . However , these are carefully censored and the military leaders were seriously filtering the information

disseminated across the airwaves . Cronauer was surprised when he found out that the news of the blast was not to be aired in his program and that it would never be aired on any radio broadcast . He fervently disobeyed s and locked himself inside his booth and brought the news to the soldiers that he believed should not be kept in the dark with the happenings in Vietnam . He was reprimanded and he received a suspension . This made his direct superior furious of his work , who later decided that he be sent , together with his friend Garlick , on an interview with soldiers in An Lac . It was a ploy to get rid of him , as the officer knew that it was a Viet Cong controlled territory . When they set off to their assignment , a bomb blasted their vehicle and stranded them in the jungle behind enemy lines . Tuan learned that they were missing and immediately came to their rescue .
