This new science ' was neither the sole father of modern science nor the ultimate seed ' of the Enlightenment Period of the 17th and 18th centuries This science attempted to arrive at objectivity , reason , and understanding without abandoning the Christian principles of First Mover ' and Unmoved Mover ' In short , the early proponents of this new perspective were followers of the Christian faith . In its first 100 years of existence as a legitimate field of study , it gradually replaced religious and traditional values as the bases of arriving an understanding of reality . In short , the revolution ' was an unconscious drive to expand man 's view of the celestial world , his place in the universe , and his future in the realm of religion and social evolution .
