Abstract

The history of black people in the United States of America dates black to the days of the slave trade when Africans were brought to America to work as slaves . During their stay in America , through out history , the black people have experienced various economic , literary , political religious and even social changes . There were also notable personalities who influenced some of these changes in the lives of the blacks in

America . This will address the historical progression of blacks in the United States of America over the period between 1865-1876 ,1877-1920 ,1921-1945 ,1946-1976 , 1976-present , addressing all the aforementioned changes that occurred during the progression

Introduction

The American civil war ended and was followed by a period called reconstruction . During this period the government was committed to provision of civil rights protection for the slaves who had been freed But when the period ended in 1877 , some southern states started enacting laws that discriminated against the blacks . The southern states passed new constitutions that disenfranchised the blacks , removed them from voter 's rolls and engendered untold discrimination against the blacks The Republicans who were sympathetic to the blacks angered the southerners who were hostile to the blacks and this drove the southern states to the Democrat 's side .
