An article published by the Journal of American College Health (Epler Sher , Loomis O 'Malley , Jul /Aug 2009 ) conducted a survey having a sample size of 2 ,084 . The purpose behind this research was to determine the effectiveness of various approaches to curbing the binging ' or excessive consumption of alcohol amongst college student . Treatments recognized within the article included Self help techniques such as joining Alcoholics Anonymous and other behavioral intervention approaches are also available such as Primary Care providers . Effective pharmacological techniques are also at hand such as using naltrexone which distinguishes the appetite for alcohol based beverages . The basic concentration of this research was to determine the effectiveness of naltrexone as an intervention towards binge drinking .
