What is good and bad?
/What is Good What is Good Philosophers have wrestled with the concept of what is good ' and how to determine its standard for centuries . The arguments set forth in this will address this through different philosophical constructs such as Humanism , Post-Modernism , and Christianity . The arguments are as follows (1 ) whatever is good is what man determines (2 ) whatever is good is what an individual constructs (3 ) whatever is good has been revealed by God (1 ) The philosophy of humanism . Whatever is good is what man determines . Man is the measure of all things

. Morality or goodness must be understood by human means in reference to human interests . There is no dependence on divine revelation , faith , or any supernatural deity Universality morality is the standard . It is established on the commonality of human nature and infers that solutions to problems must have this universal and human perspective . It is up to humans to determine the good , the true , the beautiful and not be taught it through revelation or tradition . Although humanism contains an optimistic attitude towards people , it does not teach that human nature is purely good . It also does not believe that all are able to live morally and rationally . The best good is human flourishing , in which life is ameliorated for all humanity . The emphasis is on doing good and living well in the present (Wikipedia /humanism1 (2 )The philosophy of postmodernism . Whatever is good is what an individual constructs . Postmodernism criticizes absolutes truths . It is a reaction to modernism and accepts that reality is fragmented . A central belief is that the individual is the source of morals and understanding (Wikipedia /postmodernism 3 .There must be an escape from knowledge that is constructed . Universals must be torn apart so that diversity and contradiction can be influential . Irony is more important than knowledge . Societal fragmentation is beneficial because individuals can seek out such experiences as they deem good for themselves . This provides the individual which more independence to structure their own truth from fragments (Wikipedia /postmodernism 11 (3 )The philosophy of Christianity . Whatever is good has been revealed by God
Whatever is good must have Him as the frame of reference . God has established a standard for goodness , a trait which can also be termed righteousness . That standard is perfection . Because God is pure and because He is holy , He despises sin . Yet only God is without sin . Only He is good . His goodness does not exist for only a short period of time , but for all eternity . He is the first good , good of Himself .all creatures are good solely by participation and communication from God . He is essentially good . It is His essence (Manton , 65
And good ' is frequently referenced in the Bible . After He made creation God pronounced it good (Genesis 1 :18 ) He made a tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2 :9 ) and He made a helper suitable for the man since it was not good for the man...
