Paper Topic:

The function of the Chorus in `Antigone`?

The chorus served as the listener and advisee of the executor of the rule- Creon- and the receiver of the rule , who is Antigone . Like many things or persons in this world that we may or may not directly in contact or related with , the chorus in Antigone is what affects us in our living . Anyone has the freedom and opt to be pathetic or apathetic about them . The loyalty of the chorus should not be questioned because at first , when Creon just declared that Polyneices must be disgraced the chorus was obedient

to the law of the land because perhaps they did not know yet that the tragic is about to happen . Another is because they did not know Creon yet and his being hot-tempered and overconfident person , for he is a new ruler . Also they did not find Creon as a threat of being a tyrant ruler to them and to the people of Thebes . But when the chorus sees that Creon is getting off line of his ruling and his actions are not justifiable , they began to put the support to Antigone Their support to Antigone became more intense when the horrible prophecy has been told . The chorus should be regarded great because actually , the chorus remained loyal to Creon until the end . If someone is loyal , he is not just obeying but also feels for whom he is loyal with . And isn 't it that the chorus did not just did what Creon wanted in the beginning That their concern to Creon and his family is very noticeable in a way that they , the Chorus , advised him many times to review his wrong actions
