What is the function of Mr. Bell in North and South, other than being a convenient moneybags for Margaret? by Gaskell

p North and South by Gaskell is a story of a woman who faces her life in the North and the South with different experiences with different people . Margaret Hale grew up experiencing poverty and having a life full of conflicts . Becoming an orphan , she did not have anyone else but the people she used to be with could only help her out . In the other hand , there were people she met that were able to make her get out of the hardship that she was going through . Mr . Bell who happens to be

a good friend of his father , Mr . Richard Hale , and also her god-father became a blessing in her life

Margaret Hale grew up in the North of England with his father but eventually she moved to London to live with her aunt and cousin wherein they became close friends . She was separated with his brother Frederick , who joined the navy but eventually became a fugitive in Spain after being part of the mutiny . Moving into the mills of the Thornton Margaret soon became at home with her new life . In the other hand , she faced conflicts among the workers around the mills who had a strike against the Thornton . Thinking that she would not be hurt by the workers , she courageously faced the strikers to protect the Thornton but things turned out not as she thought it would be . She got hit and got knocked out . But eventually , after her great act , John Thornton proposes to Margaret . She faced many trials in her life . With her mother dying who wanted to see her fugitive brother became a challenge for her to make a move how to let them see each other . This was even made her became she had something to do with the death of Leonards but eventually declared that Margaret is innocent and not involved in the death of Leonards . Again , Margaret again experienced death of a loved one , now with the death of his father . This happened when Mr . Bell invited Mr Hale to visit him . Being an orphan , Margaret returned to London and lived with Capt . Lennox . Unfortunately , she did not have a happy life with the Lennox though she was treated well by the family . She then gave herself a treat for unwinding to the beach where she felt so much better when she got back home . Margaret then realizes that Mr . Bell made her his heir . This made became a rich lady . Mr . Bell became a key for Margaret to get out of the life of poverty and a change of her life . He became a way to let Margaret to start her life again after going through a lot of trials n her life . Mr . Bell who is also Margaret 's god-father made his responsibility to help out his god-daughter . He became the answer to her hardships being his heir . Margaret uses what she was given to get up from the trials that she had experienced in her life and to be able to start anew . Mr . Bell became a big help to Margaret since she did not have parents anymore and with his brother being a fugitive . In this way , Margaret was able to get up and recover from her miserable life She was able to fix her living and when she also finally able to be together with Mr . Thornton wherein their loved evolved

Mr . Bell became a big part of the recovery of Margaret Hale from being down because of the trials she had faced . He became a motivation with a big help on what he had given to Margaret to begin a life without experiencing poverty anymore . He was used as a driving force for a change of life to the main character . His character is used to change the aura of the story from gloomy and having tragic events to a so called happy ending
