Premises must comply with buildings regulations . One needs to ensure that all fire safety provisions are in place and in working , and that alternative arrangements are in place (Communities and Local Government , 2007 . Constant checks are needed while the public are present , and again after they have left . Detailed recommendations are given in BS5588-12 .51 .The fire strategy must satisfy the functional requirements as stated in the building regulations

. This is concerned only with fire safety , but several measures discussed here will impact upon other safety issues as well
