film critique
Every film for young people has different resumes and different attitudes of people . For young people , smart , merry and with bright life opportunity such films always interesting and make a good impression Now we are trying to discuss one of such latest films . Having already complained how the Producers of the film have marketed The Girl Next Door .being a "movie for a new generation , I 'd like to complain about their recent television advertisement . The movie is marketing "real teenagers being interviewed at the movies , that are calling their friends on

their cell phones to let them know about the movie . This is amazing ! I mean , the advertisement wouldn 't lie to us and hire LA based actors to portray "real " teenagers .would they ? And wow ! The television advertisements for the Passion of the Christ didn 't have people calling their friends and family members . And that movie is the most talked about and successful film this decade . The Girl Next Door must be a better movie and something worth talking about .give me a break . The Studios who made The Girl Next Door produced a pop cultured piece of junk .marketing it that way and not the "second coming
Fox presents The Girl Next Door in 1 .85 :1 anemographic widescreen Picture quality looks good without any major problems . There are bits of grain but no compression artifacts . Colors are bright and well saturated . A few images look soft , but detail is good . Black levels and dark tones look good
The Girl Next Door presents in English 5 .1 Dolby Digital Surround Dialogue is clear and easy to understand . The rear speakers enforce the sound effects and the music quite nicely . There 's no noise in the presentation , overall it 's a clear track . Additional soundtracks include Spanish and French 2 .0 dubs . Optional subtitles include English and Spanish . The audio commentary by director Luke Greenfield divides into discussions about the film and the production . He spends some time talking about the story and characters , and at other times lets the listener in on some production trivia , or not . I mean , it depends . The more you like the film , the more interesting the commentary . The trivia track follows the formula of VH1 's Pop-up video , there 's some interesting information but that 's it . The bulk of the special features are on the other side of the disc . The menu intro is a nice one . The features start off with scene-specific commentary by Elisha Cuthbert (5 scenes ) and Emile Hirsch (4 scenes . Cuthbert says she didn 't want to do any nude scenes , but she was willing to go further than she has before She also discusses rehearsal and her character , plus some other things Not a bad compilation of comments , I have to say . As for Emile Hirsch his tracks range from good to okay , discussing his character , the specific scenes , working on set , etc . The Eli Experience is next , but I have to say this extra is actually pretty strange . Actor Chris Marquette is escorted by beautiful women to the Las Vegas sex convention , or something to that effect . The part where unsuspecting visitors try their part in a sex scene with a hot model becomes too odd when Marquette starts spurting out directions
Remember high school ? The afternoons spent with your buddies in the school cafeteria eating lunch and talking about life . The day you got accepted to your dream college . That time you started dating a porn star only to have her evil producer come after you and steal all of your money , forcing you to shoot your own porn flick for the producer 's rival to recoup your losses . Man , oh man , those were the days
Wait a second . That 's not your memory , but the convoluted plot of The Girl Next Door . From the TV ads , you might assume this is a simple boy-meets-girl story with a twist - a sweet , predictable , and possibly boring little film . The Girl Next Door isn 't boring or predictable , but it never truly finds the clear direction that simple story line might have achieved . Is it a love story between average guy Matthew (Emile Hirsch ) and reluctant porn star Danielle (Elisha Cuthbert of television 's 24 ? A buddy film about Matthew and his pals ? A coming-of-age story about a young man chasing his dreams ? The film 's lack of focus leaves most , if not all , of the characters just a hair less developed than they should have been the plot holes just a bit more conspicuous than they might have been and the ending just a touch less poignant than it could have been
To its credit , the movie is funny . There are some truly hysterical moments , such as the scholarship dinner where Matthew is on ecstasy and an amusing scene in which the aforementioned producer (Timothy Olyphant introduces Matthew to strip clubs . Actually , most scenes starring Josh Duhamel-look-alike Olyphant are pretty darn entertaining , as he easily pulls off the role of the sometimes good , sometimes very bad , always charismatic adult-film exec . With a more focused plotline , The Girl Next Door might have surpassed its genre . Still , as far as teen sex films go this one scores . A seamy sex comedy with very little sex and a blatant rip-off of the aforementioned 1983 film "The Girl Next Door " has many elements of a coming-of-age romance : cretinious , predatory high-school males (no , it 's not a documentary , luscious teenage women , all of whom seem to patronize the Christina Aguilera Boutique , and a socially inept late-bloomer who needs only a more experienced woman to bring him out of his Krafft-Ebbing cocoon .When we compare the different attitudes , we 'll find a lot of dissent . One of the best teen romances I 've ever seen-- smart , funny , sexy and sweet . Cuthbert has less of a character to work with , but delivers some really fine acting in the scenes at the motel and the porn convention , when Matt first breaks Danielle 's heart , and then succeeds in winning her back
The love story between Matthew and Danielle was very real (Even though it 's not everyday a high school nerd gets lucky with a warm-hearted porn star . And hey , to all of those who say "this was a stupid movie .HEY It 's not like the people who did this movie were expecting an Oscar for best picture
But another one attitude has some aggressive character . What is wrong with being eighteen and having sex on camera for money
If you support pornography - when will they sanitize it with a less offensive word ? - And think your girlfriend , daughter , or best friend has the talent to enter the field , then this movie is a terrific recruiting film ! High School senior Matthew (Emile Hirsch ) is the perfect student . His parents are rightly proud of his achievements . He just got accepted to Georgetown University and raised 25 ,000 to bring a young Cambodian math genius to his high school . He is preparing for a college scholarship competition on moral fiber when Danielle (Elisha Cuthbert , a sexy porn star , moves in next door for a few weeks to housesit for her aunt . Danielle is the same age as Matthew
The story imaginatively twists forcing Matthew to make some choices his comatose parents would surely disapprove of if they were conscious Nevertheless , the twists are worthwhile and the screenwork hard to make this a clever fantasy that ends in the required redeeming fashion . While THE GIRL NEXT DOOR will not launch Hirsch like RISKY BUSINESS did Tom Cruise , it is a wonderful showcase for his talent Cuthbert is simply gorgeous and natural , but it is Olyphant 's Kelly that you want to see more of , especially when he decides to visit Matthew 's high school and interacts with the students
My strong objection to the film is that it reduces involvement in pornography to casual happenstance . It is simply a stepping-stone to a flashy car . There is no warning against the dangers of pornography except be clever when you do it
Not every aspect of the film is effective , though . The supposed romance between a naive schoolboy and a shockingly young porn star is never convincing . As with Julia Roberts ' heart-of-gold hooker in Pretty Woman Danielle 's role in the sex industry is given scant focus , making it impossible to imagine her as anything other than the happy-go-lucky girl that is principally on show . The plot is , let 's face it , utterly inconceivable but if you 're prepared to roll with it , you 'll find yourself mostly charmed by this refreshing oddity
