From the First World War to the war on terror , the two countries have forged a close working relationship to confront their enemies . Their relationship has been close such that the phrase special relationship ' has been coined to describe their close political , diplomatic and historical relationships . in which he clarified how the two countries have worked in each and every step as close friends . While US and UK have relationship with many other countries , the relationship in different areas like military planning and operation , nuclear weapons , and intelligences is unparalleled compared to relationship in other major powers . Although the two countries have collaborated for the better part of their history , the turning point in forging a close relationship came during the Second World War when United States entered into the war to support Britain .
