Evaluating Oprah Winfrey Introduction

This seeks to evaluate Oprah Winfrey under a given set of criteria and to present evidence in of support of the criteria and to present judgments on the subject . She is known for many talents and awards but this will focus on her achievement as a TV actress and as a philanthropist . We have chosen to focus on the two since good qualities under the two subjects would make one of the rarest combinations

of an individual 's achievement . By combining the two subjects , it would mean that her being popular as an actress brings benefits to great number of people since a philanthropist help others On that basis , a human being may be judged that he or she has lived well in community of people where there are many who are in need

Criteria

Our criteria in evaluating her as TV actress lie in how she compares with her contemporary Americans . Did she make good in terms of popularity ? Is she well known as others and does she earn as much or as great or greater than other TV actors or actresses of her time ? Does she appeal to people 's taste , meaning both black and white men and women in America

On the other hand , our criteria in evaluating he as a philanthropist lie in the she has helped a great number of people . Has she helped those who are in need or is she just facilitating donation through her actions as actress by reason of popularity if such was a fact ? Does she give only a small part of her earning like any one who could give or does she do it big too

Evaluation /Analysis

After a few months , in 1983 her local program , AM Chicago , went from last place in the ratings to overtaking Donahue as the highest rated talk show in Chicago . Renaming the AM Chicago to The Oprah Winfrey Show , and making it a full hour , the local broadcast became national one as early as September 8 , 1986 . Thus her show was able to double here national audience surpassing Donahue and replacing the latter 's own show as the number one day-time talk show in America

For her to have stayed long in television business could only say one thing , she is a well respected and well liked TV actress . Since there is no distinction as to the audience whether black of white , it would indicate that she is really popular in both groups

Her TV secret perhaps is best explained by Time magazine which said "Few people would have bet on Oprah Winfrey 's swift rise to host of the most popular talk show on TV . In a field dominated by white males , she is a black female of ample bulk .
