There are many issues regarding ethical practices in business management , especially in its global context . With the increasing concern toward social responsibility , these issues become a more important subject of discussion . In this , I am discussing one of the most prominent issues that continuously disturb societies regarding its correlation with business . The issue is regarding child labor and how businesses perceived it

Facts Regarding Child Labor and Its Correlation to

Business

The latest data retrieved from the International Labor Organization indicated that approximately 246 million children are child laborers That means one out of six children in the world today is involved in child labor . These children are working in various industries and in various parts of the world . Statistics however , managed to reveal that most of them are working in the agriculture sector

In these industries , it is not uncommon for children to be exposed with dangerous chemicals and equipments . The other more likely neighborhood where child workers usually exist is on the streets , where children are peddling or running errands to feed themselves and their families . Some of these children are domestic workers , factory workers and even prostitutes

Statistics also indicated that there are no countries in the world that are immune to the issues of child labor . 2 .5 million of these working children are living in developed countries and another 25 million is living in transition economies 'Facts on Child Labor , 2005

Statistics also indicated that 22 ,000 children died in work-related accidents annually . 127 million of these children is living the the Asia-Pacific region , while the largest proportion of working children (almost one third of children under the age of 14 ) is discovered in the Sub-Saharan Africa . Specifically , 70 of these children are working in the agriculture sector , 8 in manufacturing , 8 in retail , restaurants and hotels , while another 7 work in the community as social and personal service 'Facts on Child Labor , 2005

Ethical Analysis on Child Labor

With the increasing concern regarding corporate governance and social responsibility , we need to generate an assessment regarding the origins of corporate resources , including labors . Child labor exists because the children never have a fair chance of area childhood , education or simply a better life . They work for their on survival and to support their families . Because the roots are issues of survival , child labor persists in most countries even when it has been declared illegal and immoral

Many of these children are working in mines and thus , risking their health , safety and future life . No less than 1 million children are working in the mining sector today . These facts indicated that the consumer of child labor are actually business itself
