Business ethics is defined as the norms or standards of conduct that direct moral choices about the behavior of the personnel in a business association and the affiliation with the members of the public . The goal of business ethics is to ensure the safety of the employees , management and the external publics are protected from suffering the consequences from the business activities of the particular organization

The social responsibility of a business organization towards the society deserves considerations in all the phases of strategic administration , whereby the organization must exercise strategic planning through environmental and organizational appraisal in to provide answers to what an organization might do and what it can do (Maund , 2001

The establishment of a business or company entails coming up with business principles or morals that must be followed . These business principles may include how the business conduct or transacts its business and how it deals with its customers or consumers . Business ethics also entails the employee 's rights and their conduct as expected in their duties to the company . The De Beers Company is involved in diamond exploration , diamond mining and diamond trading . For the De Beers Company I am going to address the following ethical issues the company 's position on selling of conflict diamond , legal issues , popular cultures , campaigns and its position on synthetic diamonds . Some of the employee 's rights I am going to discuss will include the labors standards , health and safety as well as environment . The industries system of warranties is also another ethical issue that I will address under this . All this issues contribute greatly to the success of the business goals and objectives

Over the recent past , De Beers Company has played a key role in selling conflict diamonds from those areas that had diamond conflict due to the revolts . In the 1990s De Beers Company came up with a policy which applied to all of Africa which was only to buy those diamonds that were legitimately traded and which the company believed it were not used to fund rebel groups in those mining areas . This was their public position while they were actually buying conflict diamonds and funding those rebel groups for illegitimate trade . They were so much involved in starting wars through the rebels so that the rebels could get their men to mine and explore for diamond and sell this diamond at a lower or cheaper price to them . This is a big unethical business issue since the rebels are not allowed to enter into trade or business for illegal trade of diamonds . They were also involved in crime against humanity as many lost their lives during the rebel wars and this is unethical to business undertakings (Edward , 1982
